Incarnation-Cross-Resurrection Event
or what you might call the complete works of Jesus.God has spoken to us in His SonHebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
God used many approaches to send his messages to people in Old Testament times.- He spoke to Isaiah in visions (Isa 6)
- To Jacob in a dream (Gen 28:10-22)
- To Abraham & Moses personally (Gen 18; Ex 31:18)
The people the writer of the Hebrews was writing to, would be familiar with these stories and would not have found it hard to believe that God was still revealing his will. What was astonishing for them was to think that God had revealed himself by speaking through his Son, Jesus Christ. In fact many of the Jews did not accept that Jesus was the Messiah Jesus is the fulfillment and conclusion of God's revelation through the centuries. When God spoke through Jesus he completed his revelation of himself to mankind there is no need for anymore 'special messengers" from God.When we know truly know Jesus, we have all we need to be saved from our sin and to enjoy a perfect relationship with God. The complete and full revelation of the Son's is demonstrated in the seven statements about him in the passage we have just read. I want to unpack these seven statements so that you can truly understand who Jesus is and what he has done for you. Jesus is appointed heir of all things
The incarnated Son, having performed the work of redemption, was gloriously exalted to the position of firstborn heir of God. He received the inheritance of God's estate. Incarnation - means God taking human form as Jesus Christ - the MessiahMatthew 1:22-23
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" - which means, "God with us."
Jesus is not merely an image or reflection of God. He is God He is the absolute authentic representation of God's being.John 14:9 Jesus said to Philip
He who has seen me has seen the Father.Jesus is the visible, tangible image of the invisible God.
He is the complete revelation of what God is like. Jesus explained to Philip, who wanted to see the Father, that to know Jesus is to know God. The search for God, for truth and reality, ends in Jesus Christ.Jesus up holds all things.
Colossians 1:17
He is before all things and in Him all things hold together Jesus is not like Atlas, the mythical Greek god who held the world on his shoulders. The Son dynamically holds together all that has been created through Him.Jesus provided purification of sins.
Through his redeeming death on the cross, He dealt with sin once and for all. Jesus sat down at the right hand of majesty on high. Being seated at God's right hand indicates that the work of redemption is complete and that Jesus Christ is actively ruling with God as Lord over all.Mark 16:19
He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.This is a position of authority where Jesus the Son of God is right now ruling and reigning over his kingdom forever.
The incarnation-cross-resurrection event is crucial to us today. It is the focal point of revelation of Jesus throughout the Bible. It is our gospel that we preach, teach and live. It is 'The finished works of Jesus" If we don't believe that Jesus is God then our faith is hollow, misdirected and meaningless. Knowing Jesus; who he is and what he has done is the central truth in our Christian faith. We can not and must never separate God and the Son of God Jesus, they are one and are both fully God they are in fact two parts of the trinity the Holy Spirit being the third person in the trinity.
Firstborn - is referring to his position of authority and per-eminence given to the firstborn son in the Old Testament (Gen 49:3-4). The word for "firstborn" could be translate in the Hebrew as "chief" in 1Ch 5:12 (LXX). Jewish texts most commonly applied the term to Israel as a nation. Ancient Near Eastern texts applied equivalent terms to other deities, (e.g. the kings were sometimes acclaimed as sons of gods at their enthronements). It is also interesting to note that, although David was the youngest of eight sons he is being appointed the firstborn. Through Jesus the world was made.John 1:3 (NIV)
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.Colossians 1:16 (NIV)
For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.In Colossians 1:15-20 Paul stresses the supremacy of Christ by repeating 'all creation" and 'all things" seven times. All means ALL not everything apart from one or two other things. All things were created by him.Jesus is the radiance of His Glory
John 1:14
the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we saw His glory...
As the brilliance of the sun is inseparable from the sun itself, so the Son of God's radiance is inseparably from deity, for Jesus Christ is himself God the second person of the trinity.
