Reaching out

Some of Jesus" last words to his disciples encouraged them to extend the kingdom of God beyond their own city and on into regions where they may not normally be comfortable going and then out to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). At Longton Community Church we aim to stay true to Jesus command to reach out to those around us

In Acts 8 we find the church breaking out under the persecution that came after Stephen was martyred. Again in Acts 11 the church is seeking those who have not yet heard the good news that Jesus is the saviour of the world. God speaks to Peter in a vision and shows him that the good news is not limited to the Jews but is for all mankind. Further on in the chapter we find men from Cyprus and Cyrene went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Jesus. Jesus himself came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10) and in Acts we see the church starting to fulfill the Great Commission to 'Go'.

It is time for the church to become the seekers, we can no longer leave up to people to seek what they don't know! We need to break out of our buildings, our preset ideas and way of doing things and start fulfilling the great commission to 'go'. We are to be an influence into our communities, cities, nation seeking those have not yet meet Jesus.

At Longton Community Church we are confident that Jesus has put before us an open door that no one can shut. Our vision is to extend to kingdom of God, in our local community, our city, our nation and the world.
