The Kingdom of God is Near
More Than Heaven. More Than Church.
What if the gospel is better than you think it is?
Not just a little better…
But bigger, deeper, and more life-changing than you’ve ever imagined?
For many of us, the gospel has meant one thing:
“I’m forgiven, and one day I’ll go to heaven.”
That’s true.
But it’s incomplete.
Jesus didn’t just come to get you into heaven one day—
He came to bring heaven into your life today.
A Simple Picture
Think about using a sat nav.
You put in your destination.
It gives you the route.
It knows exactly how to get you there.
But then… you ignore it.
You decide, “I know a better way.”
And what happens?
Recalculating…
Again.
And again.
And again.
Here’s the thing:
The sat nav isn’t trying to control you—it’s trying to get you where you actually want to go.
And for many of us, that’s what our relationship with God looks like.
We want the destination:
- Peace
- Purpose
- Joy
- A life that works
But we keep saying:
“I’ll get there my way.”
“God isn’t trying to control your life—He’s trying to lead you to the life you actually want.”
The Gospel Jesus Preached
Jesus described His mission like this:
“It is necessary for me to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God… because I was sent for this purpose.” (Luke 4:43)
And this is what He preached:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15)
That’s the gospel.
Not just forgiveness.
Not just salvation.
The Kingdom of God is near.
What Does that Mean?
The Kingdom of God is simple:
God’s will
done God’s way
in God’s people
- It’s not a place.
- It’s not a country.
- It’s not a political system.
It’s where God is in charge.
Jesus Defines It
In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us to pray
“Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
This is the clearest picture of the Kingdom.
God’s will being done on earth as it is in heaven.
That means:
- No fear
- No chaos
- No brokenness ruling
Where God rules, there is peace, order, and wholeness.
And Jesus is saying:
That reality can begin here.
“Heaven’s reality can come into earth’s situations.”
Not Just Someday — Now
This isn’t just about the future.
Jesus teaches us to pray about:
- Daily bread
- Forgiveness
- Guidance
This is everyday life.
The Kingdom isn’t just something we wait for—
It’s something we live in.
The Priority of the Kingdom
Jesus says:
“Seek first the kingdom of God… and all these things will be provided for you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Not second.
Not when it’s convenient.
First.
Before:
- Money
- Comfort
- Plans
- Security
Why?
Because when God is in charge…
Everything else comes into order.
“Salvation is the door.
The Kingdom is the life.”
Salvation Is the Beginning, Not the End
Jesus talked about the Kingdom far more than He talked about salvation.
Salvation matters deeply—
It’s how we enter the Kingdom.
Jesus said:
“Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
New birth is the doorway.
But the Kingdom is the life that follows.
What the Kingdom Looks Like
Paul describes it like this:
“The kingdom of God is… righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)
That’s what happens when God is in charge.
- Peace where there was anxiety
- Joy where there was heaviness
- Righteousness where there was brokenness
“Heaven isn’t just a destination—it’s a reality God wants to grow in you.”
Clearing Up the Confusion
1. The Kingdom is not just Heaven
Heaven is part of God’s Kingdom—but the Kingdom is bigger.
It’s anywhere God’s will is being done.
2. The Kingdom is not the Church
The church matters deeply.
But the Kingdom is bigger than the church.
The Kingdom is wherever God is truly in charge.
Where Do You See the Kingdom?
The Kingdom shows up in surprising places:
- A prison Bible study
- A mum encouraging another mum
- A workplace where someone lives differently
- A church learning to follow Jesus together
Anywhere God’s will is lived out.
“The Kingdom of God is not far away—it’s already breaking in.”
Picture of Kingdom Living
Daniel lived in a hostile, pagan environment.
Yet his life was marked by righteousness, peace, and joy.
His life looked like heaven in the middle of chaos.
That’s Kingdom living.
This Is the Good News
The Kingdom of God is not:
- Just the future
- Just for Sundays
- Just for heaven
It is near.
And it is available.
Your Invitation
Jesus said you cannot enter the Kingdom without new birth.
And today, that invitation is open.
A brand-new life:
- Forgiven
- Restored
- Made new
- Filled with His Spirit
The gospel is not just:
“One day I’ll go to heaven.”
It’s this:
The King has come…
and His Kingdom is available now.
